Do you have questions?

We are here to help! Here are frequently asked questions to help you learn more about Orion ABA.

Yes. ABA Therapy is considered an evidence-based best practice intervention, which means that many scientific studies have shown that ABA based interventions work. Some individuals have expressed concerns that ABA could make a child robotic or be harmful to child. At Orion ABA Inc, we value your child’s input and assent into their own programming and support highly individualized program development that stresses naturalistic teaching to encourage generalization of skills. We strictly follow the Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analyst™.

At Orion ABA Inc, we use a multidisciplinary approach to provide comprehensive services to the family unit. The executive team is comprised of three staff with a variety of unique qualifications including Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certifications, LCSW and an MBA. They have a combined experience of over 50 years in the field. They use this experience to coordinate team meetings, ensure quality of services and oversee your child’s designated BCBA.

Your BCBA is a professional that has a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis or a similar field. They also have a minimum of 1,500 hours of supervised experience and have passed a nationally recognized certification exam. BCBAs must adhere to an ethics code and complete Continuing Education every two years to maintain their certification. Your child’s BCBA will assess their strengths and needs, create custom programming and monitor your child’s progress. Your child’s BCBA will work with you to provide individualized parent goals with weekly parent coaching and training to empower you to encourage your child to use the skills they learn in therapy at home. The BCBA will also train and regularly supervise the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or Behavior Therapist (BT) to implement your child’s program.

The RBT has a minimum of a high school education or equivalent, has completed a 40 hour training in ABA, has demonstrated their ability and competency to use the skills learned in training, and has passed a nationally recognized exam. They are required to have 5% of their hours worked be supervised directly by a BCBA and must recertify annually. A Behavior Therapist (BT) is a staff that is currently making progress towards their RBT certification. Your RBT or BT will work with your child 15-40 hours per week to implement the individualized programming created by your child’s BCBA.

The RBT/BT will come to your home at a time that has been scheduled in advance. They will greet you and your child and spend the first few minutes of the session playing with your child in order to develop a good relationship so that your child is comfortable working with them. The therapist will then set up the location designated for therapy with the materials to run the programs identified in your child’s individualized plan. During the session, the therapist will take data to quantify progress towards the identified goals. The session will last anywhere from 2-5 hours, depending on your child’s needs and schedule. The therapist will spend the last 15 minutes of the session cleaning up and completing session notes, that are available for your review in your child’s parent portal

Orion ABA Inc takes a family approach to therapy. We offer monthly team meetings to coordinate your child’s programming. We find that the frequent review of goals and data will help your child progress at the fastest rate possible. During sessions, parents and siblings are encouraged to watch or participate with the therapist. Your child’s BCBA will work with you to develop parent training goals to support your family as a whole and will dedicate a separate time to work with you individually. A BCBA who is a trained Safety Care for Families® instructor is available to schedule one-on-one instruction to caregivers to teach this curriculum. This curriculum provides crisis prevention and de-escalation strategies as well as home and community safety modifications.
